Being physically active and exercising is important for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes yet lots of people find it hard to begin or stick to doing such activity regularly.
This study aims to identify effective methods to help people with diabetes increase and maintain their everyday physical activity levels and start exercising regularly to benefit their physical and mental health.
The study is looking for people aged 40-75 who have been diagnosed with diabetes in the last 2 years. The study includes a 6-month exercise programme which will be designed with an exercise specialist.

An remote initial meeting with the study team will be used to confirm your eligibility for the study and gather your consent to participation.
Once enrolled, the study includes a 6-month exercise programme which you will co-design with an exercise specialist. Throughout the 6-month period there will be 5 exercise consultations with an exercise specialist. There will also be 3 basic health checks to do in your own home. One before the exercise programme, one immediately following the intervention (6-months) and one 6-months after the intervention (12-months).
Each health check will take 45 mins and will involve providing body measurements (height, weight, waist circumference), your blood pressure and a blood sample. You will be sent home testing kits to complete these. Following the health check you will be asked to wear two devices to track your physical activity and blood sugar levels for 14 days.
All aspects of this study, including the exercise coaching, will be conducted remotely.
All participants will co-design their own 6-month personalised exercise and physical activity programme with an exercise specialist and have 5 exercise consultations with an exercise specialist.
To do the basic health checks you will be given, to keep, a tape measure, set of scales and a blood pressure monitor.
